In forty ophthalmologically healthy volunteers (80 eyes) 19–28 years according to the optical coherence tomography (OCT), the description of the retinal thickness profile in the foveal pit of the retina (FP) was carried out by five points from its edge to the center along the vertical and horizontal meridian. Cluster analysis of these 80 profiles allowed to divide them into three typological groups, which differ in the thickness of the retina at each point of measurement. The typological groups of FP profiles differed by the average level of visual acuity (VA) – the significantly highest monocular VA occurred in optimal FP profiles, which generally have the greatest thickness and degree of its “deflection” from the edge to the center. All other factors – optical characteristics, laterality (right/left) and gender differences did not have a significant impact on the level of VA.

Key words: the profile thickness of the foveal pit, visual acuity
